Learn about the best Natural Health & Beauty Products below!

If you’re anything like me, you are most likely looking to do what you can to reduce your impact on the environment, while also creating a healthier home for you and your family! One area that I’ve done a lot of ‘experimenting’ in, has been my bathroom! It seems that a lot of beauty products come in plastic & produce a lot of waste. Not only that, they are full of toxic ingredients that are not great for us, or for the environment. In the past few years, I have found what I believe to be some of the best natural health & beauty products out there!

What kind of coconut milk should I use?

My personal favorite, is homemade coconut milk. Homemade coconut milk is a little bit lighter and has a fresher flavor than canned. Additionally, its less expensive, has no additives or thickeners, and you don’t have to worry about cans with BPA (something I am sensitive to). Also, if you shop bulk, you can cut down on waste too! Check out our easy recipe for DIY homemade coconut milk. If you do decide to make your own coconut milk, you don’t need to strain it for this particular recipe! So you can very quickly add hot water to your flaked coconut, blend, and add it right to your rice to cook in less than five minutes.

However, you can easily use canned coconut milk with this recipe, too. If I am going to buy canned coconut milk, I like to buy this Native Forest brand. Its organic, BPA free, and well priced.

Making your own coconut milk might seem like a daunting task, but it is actually surprisingly easy, and only requires two ingredients – hot water, and unsweetened shredded coconut! Additionally, you can make 2 cups of coconut milk for about $1.20 (or even less if purchased in bulk at the grocery store). Compare that to a can of organic coconut milk for $3+ and you can really rack up the savings!

Another great benefit to making your own – no additives, preservatives, thickeners, or worrying about BPA lining in cans (something I have a sensitivity to)! Continue reading “HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN COCONUT MILK”

Vegan Lemon Poppy Seed Loaf

Moist. Light. Delicious. What more could you look for in a vegan quick bread? This vegan lemon poppy seed quick bread recipe is 100% vegan and so good, non-vegans will have no idea its dairy & egg free! It works well as a breakfast quick bread, or even as dessert. The only ‘weird’ ingredient in here is non-dairy yogurt (which is still very easy to find at most grocery stores – and even easier at Whole Foods!)

Baking and prep-time is pretty quick as well. Overall, you should be able to have it ready to go in about 1.5 hours (45min bake time included). Even less if you don’t use icing! Just add together dry ingredients in one bowl, wet in another, mix together and bake!
